The challenge was to create a booklet that unfolds into a poster, while also placing a fable or folktale in a modern context. I chose the story How the Children Played Butcher by the Brothers Grimm. The story is about children, who during an unfortunate game of play, brutally kill each other. The ringleader is taken to trial and his innocence is questioned. As the viewer unfolds the book, the pure white letters are fractured revealing the ugly truth underneath. The final result is a morbid version of child’s alphabet poster.
